Matlock Accepts Job at Texas State

08/18/2007  SAN MARCOS - Derek Matlock is headed back to the collegiate rankings.  The 2005 and 2006 Texas Collegiate League Coach of the Year has accepted the position of Assistant Coach at Texas State University and will be joining the Bobcats baseball team for the 2008 season.  Citing the move to San Marcos and to spend more time with his family, Matlock has resigned his position as the Head Coach of the Denton Outlaws.

Matlock is the only coach the Outlaws organization has ever seen.  In three seasons on the job, Matlock became the second winningiest coach in TCL history, posting a regular season record of 78-63 and led the team to the Texas Collegiate League championship series in 2005 and 2006, bringing home the championship in 2005.  Despite a record number of injuries to his pitching staff, Matlock guided the Outlaws to the 3rd most wins in the Texas Collegiate League in 2007, with a record of 24-21 finishing just short of the playoffs.  His tenure can be defined by constant winning and his overwhelming popularity amongst his own players and fellow TCL coaches.

Coach Matlock first dabbled in the college coaching ranks as a Volunteer Assistant coach for Texas Christian University, which ended after the 2006 season.  This followed an extremely distinguished high school coaching career that led him through Lake Dallas, Flower Mound, and Eastern Hills High Schools, posting a 267-81 record over his years as a high school head coach.

The entire Outlaws organization wishes Coach Matlock the best of luck in his endeavors in San Marcos and thanks him for the countless memories over the last 3 summers. You can read more about Matlock in the DRC by clicking here.

See You in 2008!

The Denton Outlaws ownership, staff, and entire organization would like to thank all the fans, sponsors, and host families who supported us throughout the 2007 campaign.  We look forward to seeing everyone again for the 2008 season.  Remember to stay tuned to DentonOutlaws.com for alumni updates and exciting events throughout the offseason.

08/10/2007  FORT WORTH - The Texas Collegiate League announced the 12 members of the 2007 All-League Team on Friday, naming Denton Outlaws Tyler Ladendorf (Infield) and Heath Pugh (Catcher) to the team for their respective positions.  Ladendorf finished the season with a .295 AVG with 10 doubles, 15 RBI, and a league-leading 18 stolen bases.  Ladendorf was also a 2007 TCL All-Star.  Pugh also hit .295 with 23 RBI and 9 doubles.

The Outlaws have cleaned up in previous award announcements.  Derek Matlock was named the Coach of the Year in 2005 and 2006.  Andrew Brown was named the TCL Player of the Year in 2005 and Aljay Davis received the same honor in 2006.
